Hey Rich.....Like the new website....very urbane?! I particularly like your profile....have you been on a diet? Seriously, tell folks we'll have actual guitars on show so tae bring their dosh with them!
Hi Rich excellent new site, very much looking forward to the festival. I know you probably have all the artists you require for this year's festival. However if you have a substitute list I would recommend Sreph Macleod from Edinburgh Steph is 26 yr old singer songwriter and an accomplished guitarist. He is just starting out on his solo career after being in bands for many years. He trained in Classical guitar at RSAMD and is busy writing new material for his forthcoming debut album.which is due for release later this year. if you would like to hear some of his songs they are available at. http://www.showcaseyourmusic.com/stephmacleod Peace Rick Allardice Howff records
What a great festival!! I was privilaged to be amoung the performers at last years festival, playing in a duo with Malcolm Macfarlane. I attended this year as a 'punter' and had an absolute blast!
Unfortunately I arrived late, due to a busy A9!, however I did manage to catch Clive Carroll's set on the Friday night. Clive was, as ever, truly amazing!
One of the great things about Ullapool is the Festival Club after the main concerts. You really never know who's going to turn up to have a play, and somehow I managed to get myself roped into a 'Django' style jam with Paul Buckley, Gareth Pearson and Clive Carroll. Mental! Having to 'trade 4's' with the likes of Pearson and Carroll was a tad daunting! Anyway, the whole weekend was great. Too many highlights to mention really, although perhaps the most inspiring performance (personally) came from John Smith on the Sunday night, incredible!
Despite it's small size, this festival manages to bring in some of the best guitarist's in the world. Combine this with the fantastic scenery and hospitallity of Scotland, it's clearly a winning formula.
Here's to 8 more years of the Ullapool Guitar Festival!!!
Hi Rich Said last year that it couldn't get any better, but I was wrong. Great guests, particularly Clive Carroll. Disappointed to have missed Sunday night with Akkerman and Andrew Robinson. Must do something about that next year. Was it the alcoohol, or did everything seem just a bit slicker and smoother this year? Cheers Dave
I'd like to thank you for putting on such a great festival. It was my first one, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The highlights for me were Gareth Pearson, Clive Carroll and Adrian Legg, although to be fair there were a few I didn't manage to see.
There were whispers going around that it may not happen next year due to lack of funding. I really hope that is not the case, as I fully intend it to be a regular date in my diary.
Hi Richard I was staying at your hostel over new year and enjoyed the jam we had at some unreasonable time in the morning. This festival looks brilliant. Do you have a date yet for 2008? Nicole

Hi there! Not many comments so I'll try to start something. I just came across the Ullapool GF - dreams come true! I'll be signing up for tickets etc once the latest info (program and the like - including hotels please) are up there. So - anyone live in the Bromley/Kent area - and fancy a pint and a jam? I'm not so great yet but ... who knows! OK - see you all up there. BJ
OK - so no one uses this much! Come on guys - at least give some feedback. We are only a couple of weeks away. So I have a question - I am looking for a general resource web site that shows ... well everything for acoustic guitars - not owned by a company or magazine. Just a simple resource. So if there isn't one I'll build one (I do that!) I started then thought - if anyone knows of one I could be wasting my time. If not - what would anyone like to see on it? Email me at bj_guitar@bje.demon.co.uk if you want to discuss. Like I said - see you in October ... BJ
Hi Bj Hope to see you at the Festival don't be backwards at coming forwards it would be good to put a face to the name. Have you had a look at www.italkguitar.com If you want something specific James taylor who runs this particular guitar web site will be at the Festival so you can maybe exchangesome idfeas about what you want. There is no point in trying to re-invent the wheel?? Does that help you with your quest??? Speak soon Richard
Hi – there finally got round to commenting on the great 9th festival … which was … great! Sorry for the delay – I was off to Mauritius – which I played my first paying gig (OK so I was crap and the payment was a free massage but hey who’s counting.)
So to the festival – I’ll probably do a better assessment later – when I have more time but hats of to Rich for all the work he put in. The music was consistently good – the only concert I didn’t hang around for was Andy’s – partly because I was tired (note to self – next year book a cottage – and not the hotel where the party is!)
On the late night party – again some excellent performances – could do with a bigger venue though – and maybe a few more seats! Great to hear Tristan – even if he did give me his cold! It was also fascinating to rub shoulders with so many great guitarists and great guys – particular mention here of Clive Carroll – a great player and a genuinely nice bloke!
So – that’s it for this blog – I’ll try to do a fuller revue (probably off line) in the near future – with my personal opinions on all the artists. Thanks again – and see you next year!
PS – what happened to the ukulele - was going to bid for it but it never came up – did it get sold in the end and if so for how much?
